Below we present to the
Greeks,
Cypriotes and Greek and Cypriote Emigrants,
some
eminent speakers
in their speeches as summaries of
Mr.Nicolas Bornozis
- President, Capital Link, the
Dr.
Panagiotis Alexakis
- Former President of Athens Exchange, University of Athens, Department of
Economics &
Dr.
George Iatridis
- Assistant Professor of Accounting and Finance, Department of Economics,
University of Thessaly Of
Mr.
Nikolaos Analytis
- President, Hellenic Network for Corporate Social Responsibility and
Mr. Nicola Facciorusso
- CEO, Akros Consulting.

Mr. Nicolas Bornozis
emphasized that in today’s difficult circumstances it is
important to be extrovert and communicate with the markets
in Greece as well as – and mostly – abroad. At the same time,
it is also important to recognise and reward the
individuals and companies that adopt consistent commitment to the high
principles of transparency,
corporate governance and communication
with the investment public.
Those functions are fundamental
to the proper functioning of the market and the trust of
the investment public.
He also stressed the undisputable validity of the award process,
with the support of the market’s participants,
with nominating committees comprised
of recognised market professionals and with the collection, assessment and
certification of the results
also by recognised bodies
such as Deloitte and Law Firm Tsibanoulis & Partners, who
overall offer exceptional credibility.
-
Dr.
Panagiotis Alexakis – Former President of Athens Exchange, University of
Athens, Department of Economics
&
Dr. George Iatridis – Assistant Professor of Accounting and Finance,
Department of Economics, University of Thessaly
Dr. Panagiotis Alexakis and Dr. George Iatridis
present the findings
of their study
«Evidence
of Voluntary Accounting Disclosures in the Athens Stock Market».
The study
explores the motives for providing voluntary accounting
disclosures
and investigates
the association between voluntary disclosures and earnings
management.
The findings show
that firms that display good news,
higher profitability and
growth or experience a change in the management are
motivated to provide voluntary disclosures.
The study indicates that
voluntary accounting disclosures are negatively associated
with earnings management, and lead to efficient and informed decision-making.
In his short intervention, Mr. Nikos Analytis, Chairman of
the Hellenic Network for CSR,
touched on the issues of Corporate Social Responsibility
and sustainable development and the significance these two meanings have for
businesses,
especially those listed in the Stock Exchange.
He also underlined the significance that the publication
of CSR and sustainable activities has as well as the need for the verification
by a
third independent body of the accuracy and credibility of
what is written in the social reports.
The CEO of
Akros Consulting, Mr.Nicola Facciorusso mentioned:
«The
austerity measures introduced by the Government represent severe handicaps for
the Greek economy and cannot support either the industrial growth or consumer
spending in the country. Therefore, the international investors are reluctant to
invest in Greek stocks, even if these are of well-managed and particularly
favourable valued companies. As one of the key measures to substantially improve
the critical performance of the debt ratio, the privatization of the most
State’s assets has to be a priority. The privatization’s most strategic effect
is the heavy cost reduction for the State in terms of salaries and company
related expenses. Both leading parties need to navigate TOGETHER the country out
of the crisis in a moment when unity is mandatory, along with the help of
technocrats from the private sector who have experience in restructuring and
running companies. As when thousands of years ago, Greece has the opportunity to
become an example again of making modern politics for the entire world.»
